The idea behind the 2 UNITS stable was formed when The Units travelled to Albury to meet the man behind racings most entertaining Twitter account, none other than Albury based trainer, Mitch Beer. The key theme throughout our discussions during the trip was around how to create positive experiences in racing and how to attract new people to the game at a basement level.

After numerous bao buns, bets and beers, the plan was hatched to delve into the Inglis Digital catalogue and find a $10k champion that would be suited to the Riverina area. Following some form analysis on The Units behalf and some health checks from Mitch, a 12 start maiden located at Flemington, MY BOLD BOY, was on his way to Albury.

My Bold Boy

Sire: Brazen Beau Dam: Kalabek
Age: 5 (Retired) Sex: Gelding
Nicknames: Chippies, Australia’s fastest sway back

Prior to arriving in Albury, MY BOLD BOY had 12 career starts and was unable to break his maiden in Victoria. He went on to form a successful partnership with trainer Mitch Beer and jockey Jason Lyon, using his explosive gate speed over the shorter trips to his advantage. He was an absolute marvel for connections, having 15 starts for 4 wins and 3 minor placings (15: 4-2-1), well and truly paying back his Unit Army connections and then some in the process. Affectionately known as ‘CHIPPIES’, MY BOLD BOY stormed his way into the Unit Army’s hearts with his unorthodox sway back and barrier to box approach. Thanks to the team at Mullumbimby Park, CHIPPIES has been re-homed and is now enjoying his best post-racing life in the Riverina.

Wintilly

Sire: Trust in a Gust Dam: Mark’s Matilda
Age: 4 Sex: Mare
Nicknames: Tilly

Our most recent acquisition, WINTILLY, was previously trained by Chris Hyland, winning 1 race and securing 2 minor placings from just 7 starts. She has since found her new home at Pakenham under the care of young trainer on the rise, Reece Goodwin. She’s a lovely athletic type and was purchased with a winter campaign in mind as she loves to get the toe into the ground. Her first up run for the stable didn’t disappoint, running against market expectations finishing 3rd in a $100k BM64 on Discovery day at Geelong. Plenty in store to look forward to for our favourite Mare, WINTILLY.

Scissor Kick x Pluma

Sire: Scissor Kick Dam: Pluma
Age: 2 Sex: Gelding
Nicknames: Scissor Me Timbers

We managed to secure this flashy looking chestnut colt by Scissor Kick during the October Ready2Race Sales in Sydney. We’ve had our eye on this guy for quite a while, just missing out on him at the Inglis Gold Yearling sale in early 2022.

He’s out of a mare by Kentucky Derby and Dubai World Cup winner, Animal Kingdom. Beery and Steph from Heywood Bloodstock know the stallion extremely well, with their very own Hardware Lane being by the sire. But of late you might know him for the feats of his son Giga Kick, winner of G3 Vain Stakes and G2 Danehill Stakes and slot holder in this years $15million, The Everest.

He’s both our very first 2YO and unraced proposition to join the stable and if he’s half as good as how he looks we are in for a fun ride.
